Authentic North picks you up in the centre of Tromsø or at Tromsø Lodge & Camping and drives you about 25 minutes to its floating camp in Ramfjordbotn, a cabin by the sea. There you climb into a rescue suit over your own warm clothes and float in the fjord with a guide. The programme gives 100 minutes for the guided part in the water.
Afterwards there is a campfire with coffee, tea and snacks, including pastries baked over the fire, and a certificate from the Arctic Ocean Floaters Club. You can choose a day visit or a night visit with a chance of northern lights. The operator writes that the fjord freezes over from January to March. Children under 8, anyone shorter than 130 cm and anyone over 150 kg cannot join.

From the GetYourGuide product pages, checked in October 2026. Ramfjordbotn lists 100 minutes for the guided tour and floating together, so the time in the water is shorter. The harbour float lists up to 1.5 hours in the water.
Authentic North also runs a two-hour float in the city harbour, with no drive.
Two hours in the city centre, up to 1.5 hours in the water, optional jump from the docks. All year.
The shortest way to float in Arctic water: you meet at Søndre Tollbodgate 19 by the Vervet waterfront in the city centre, get a safety briefing of about 15 minutes and then spend up to 1.5 hours in the harbour in an immersion rescue suit. There is no drive, and you do not need to be able to swim.
Authentic North runs the harbour float all year, under the polar night in winter and the midnight sun in summer. If you want to, you can jump in from the docks, a drop of 2 to 3 metres depending on the tide. A drink afterwards and an Arctic Ocean Floaters Club certificate are included. On very cold days the operator hands out insulating overalls for under the suit. Children under 8, anyone shorter than 130 cm and anyone over 150 kg cannot join.
Søndre Tollbodgate 19 (Vervet), Tromsø city centre. You float in the harbour right there.

Pickup is in the city centre at Søndre Tollbodgate 11 or at Tromsø Lodge & Camping. Guests write that the transfer is done by taxi. After about 25 minutes you reach what the operator calls a cosy cabin by the sea. The programme then lists 100 minutes for the guided tour and the floating, and about 30 minutes for a break with coffee, tea and local snacks. You walk into the water from the shore; there is no boat on this tour, as one guest points out. Afterwards there is a campfire, pastries baked over it, and a certificate from the Arctic Ocean Floaters Club. Guests also mention cinnamon rolls, hot chocolate and photos and videos from the guides.
You choose a visit during the day or at night. The night visit is the one with a chance of northern lights; one guest in March floated under them, another in February found the float pleasant but slightly underwhelming without them. Around the polar night, roughly late November to mid-January, even the day visit takes place in twilight.
Authentic North writes that the fjord freezes over from January to March. Guests in March and April describe ice floes, an Arctic feel and being taken onto the ice by the guide. Two February reviews add what that looks like in practice: a small hole cut in the ice right at the shore, tight when the group is full. In late October one guest found no ice at all. If floating among ice is the point of your trip, book from late winter and expect a hole by the shore rather than open fjord far out. More on timing on the northern lights and ice page.
The product page asks you to bring warm clothes. One guest writes that the operator provides a cotton suit to wear underneath and that it was not cold at all, and that some water can get into the suit. Bring dry clothes to change into. The full list is on the how Arctic floating works page.
Reviews describe a basic setup. Critical guests mention a cramped cabin, a pit latrine without a sink, a changing area without heating, suits that were not clean, taxis that ran late and photos that came out blurred. Most reviews praise the guides by name and the calm of the fjord. Expect a rustic shore camp rather than a spa.
Children from 8 years, guests from 130 cm tall and up to 150 kg. The product page names no other health or age limits. This product page does not mention swimming; for the harbour float, run by the same operator, no swimming skills are needed. All limits of all tours are on the who can join page.
The critical reviews are about the setting more than the floating: taxis instead of a minibus, a basic cabin and outdoor toilet, a small ice hole at the shore in February and no ice at all in October. The guides are praised in nearly every review, critical or not.
“It was really great. We had so much fun. We wouldn't have expected that beforehand. The location is awesome. You get a cotton suit to wear underneath, so it's not cold at all! It's really fun with the ice floes and definitely has an "Arctic" feel. Plenty of pictures and videos were taken of us, which we received immediately afterwards. The transport also worked out without any problems. There were cookies and tea afterwards. Some water can get into the suit, but that's not a big deal. We would definitely do it again because the fun factor is very high :)”
“The most amazing and incredible experience! we were also so lucky to float under the dancing northern lights!! Excellent and really helpful guide too. If you don't do this you've missed something really special - would 100% do this again.”
“Book it NOW! Fjord floating was a highlight of our trip. Mathieu and Paul were friendly hosts. We lucked out with a small group of only 6 and it felt like we had the fjord to ourselves on a misty autumn day. We all had a blast!”
“We had actually thought there would be a large hole in the ice far out in the fjord. The reality was sobering. A small hole right on the shore. There was barely enough room for all the participants. […] It was quite fun, but for us, it wasn't worth the price.”
“We went at late October and the lake isn't frozen yet, that we are actually floating on a lake, if you are looking those icy vibes, better go during the winter times. However, hat's off for the guides, they are so friendly and professional […]”
“The Artic float was fine. It was fun but nothing spectacular. […] They cut a small hole in the ice and we floated right by the edge. […] After about 10 minutes, you're wondering what's next. I'm sure if the Northern Lights were to appear it would be amazing but we found it slightly underwhelming. The hosts were fabulous though.”
